PDLC film stands for Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal film . It consists of micron sized droplets of liquid crystal dispersed in an optically isotropic polymer matrix. By choosing appropriate combinations of liquid crystal and polymer material, the PDLC film can be electrically switched from a light-scattering or opaque “off state” to a non-scattering or transparent “on state”. In the “off state”, the PDLC film appears milky white due to the refractive index mismatch encountered by incoming light at the liquid crystal/polymer interface.
Together with EVA film , glass processer could laminate switchable glass. The problem is that EVA film processing temperature is around 130 degree centigrades, while plastic material like PDLC film cannot stand high temperature. Shrinking problem will happen when processing temperature increase to high . To slove this problem , Oster develop a kind of EVA film specially used for PDLC film . Its processing temperature is 110 degree centigrades , which can make sure PDLC film not damaged.
